CAODC Reacts to 2019 Federal Election Results

October 22, 201912:15 PM BOE Report Staff

The Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) would like to congratulate all of Canada’s federal parties running in the 2019 election, and all voting Canadians for participating in the democratic process.

CAODC looks forward to continuing to work with the federal government to develop Canada’s world-class oil and gas industry, and getting oil and gas families back on their feet.

“The Trans Mountain Expansion Project and other infrastructure projects remain a high priority for our sector,” notes CAODC President and CEO, Mark Scholz. “Now that the election is over, we look forward to progress on market access issues, and to working with the federal government on the vision for our people and our products.”

In 2019, CAODC members have seen activity levels deteriorate to near 2016 levels, with both drilling and well servicing operating days and hours down year-over-year. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians in the oil and gas sector remain unemployed, or underemployed, and the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin still struggles for capital while other oil and gas producing jurisdictions continue their gradual recovery.

“As the world’s energy needs continue to grow, the most environmentally responsible oil and gas must have access to international markets to compete head-on against oil from countries with lower environmental, safety and human rights standards,” explains Scholz. “There is simply no reason our industry should continue to struggle when the world wants what we have to offer. Standing up for and supporting our industry is an obvious choice for the federal government, and a win for all Canadians.”
