EDMONTON – Jason Kenney is expected to announce relief today for drivers being hit hard in the wallet at the gas pumps. The relief will begin on April 1 and will shave 13 cents per litre.

Kenney has called a news conference for this afternoon, following an announcement he made last week promising a plan to address high gasoline prices.

He has said Alberta’s economy is reaping windfall profits due to soaring global oil prices, but consumers are paying a hefty price.

Kenney said officials would examine options for relief, including cuts in taxes at the pump.

Alberta drivers are facing onerous gas prices due to global demand and the war in Ukraine — stations are selling fuel at $1.50 a litre or higher.

The Opposition NDP says the United Conservative government needs to act not only on high gasoline prices, but must provide meaningful relief on swiftly rising utility bills.
