Initial production data is out for September in Alberta. BC has reported partial data and Saskatchewan has yet to report. Alberta has reported oil, condensate, and gas; full Alberta NGL data (including pentane) and marketable gas is due out in a couple weeks. While the September data won’t be considered complete until the rest of the Alberta data has been reported, it is nonetheless worthwhile to show the data as it stands today. Pentane volumes in Alberta will not be represented yet for September which will affect liquids results, and “gas equivalent” volumes will be used instead of “marketable gas” in cases where marketable gas is not yet available. As always, we use calendar day production metrics so these are real volumes produced in the month. Despite the incomplete version of this data, it is still interesting to present it as this data is fresh.
BOE Intel subscribers can generate these reports for themselves whenever they want, and interact with the wells on the BOE Intel activity map. Subscribers are able to generate top well reports with more wells, on an overall basis, by formation, by company, by area, or by well type.
TOP 15 OIL/CONDENSATE WELLS – September volumes – Alberta only (see on map)
Notable oil/condensate wells:
- ARC Resources had 8 of the top 9 oil/condensate wells in Alberta for the month of September. The top well produced a massive 1,705 bbl/d of condensate, and all of the company’s top 8 wells were over 1,000 bbl/d of condensate.
- ARC is the largest condensate producer in Canada and its total condensate production (on a gross licensed basis) matched the company’s best month in August (Figure 1). September data, which shows a dip in the chart below, is incomplete with pentane volumes not yet reported in BC or Alberta.
- Veren had 2 of the top 15 wells in September, with its top well producing 1,560 bbl/d of oil from the Montney at Elmworth. This well has cumulatively produced 341,366 bbls since being place on production in late February of this year.
- Whitecap Resources had 3 of the top 15 wells, coming from the Montney at Kakwa. Its best well produced 1,139 bbl/d of condensate in September.
- The biggest surprise from this list in September was the Belly River well from Highwood Asset Management. This well from the Brazeau River field produced 1,044 bbl/d of oil in the month, far exceeding any of the other Belly River wells drilled by industry. The next best Belly River well also belonged to Highwood. It produced 304 bbl/d in September, although it did have a peak monthly rate of 879 bbl/d in February 2024, so not just a one hit wonder here from the looks of it.
TOP 15 OIL/CONDENSATE WELLS – September volumes – Alberta only – initial liquids data (pentane volumes not yet reported for September)
*partial September data only, AB pentane volumes not yet reported. “Gas equivalent” volumes represented in gas column until “marketable gas” is reported. Cumulative column includes oil/condensate/pentane.
**TOP WELL REPORTS generally filter out oil sands/thermal wells, and only consider onshore Canadian production. However, BOE Intel subscribers can choose their own well types and include or exclude these wells
