U.S. President Donald Trump’s new 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and a 10% tariff on Canadian energy took effect on Tuesday, along with a doubling of duties on Chinese goods to 20%, sparking trade wars that could slam economic growth and raise gasoline prices for Americans.
Canada and Mexico are the top sources of U.S. crude imports, together accounting for around one-quarter of the oil U.S. refiners process into fuels such as gasoline and heating oil, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
