Almost 2 years ago, Birchcliff surprised many in industry by announcing a new land position at Elmworth.
Testing out some new public data tools at BOE Intel (ask how you can get access here), we took a look at how those mineral rights have changed since that announcement on May 10, 2023. The map below shows a constantly evolving view of the company’s mineral rights position in the area, not uncommon for producers in the complex world of mineral rights tenure. Using BOE Intel, you too can stay in the know on public data ownership trends.
Below we show that map using some of the tools that we have with our BOE Intel software.
- In yellow, these are the Crown mineral rights held by Birchcliff in the Elmworth area.
- In red, these rights still belong to Birchcliff but are “Under Review”, a status that most likely suggests that the mineral rights agreements have reached the end of their primary terms and the Crown is considering continuation.
- In purple, mineral rights that were once owned by Birchcliff, but have expired and been Cancelled since the initial announcement. Many of these rights did include the Montney formation, but not all. In some cases, Birchcliff may still own certain rights in the sections where tracts were cancelled.
- In green, these are the affected mineral rights where the zone descriptions have changed. While each piece of land has seen different rights changes, as a user scrolls through the various sections of land with zone changes it is apparent that Montney rights have generally been retained as the focus formation for the company, while some of the other rights that were initially part of the agreements now no longer belong to Birchcliff as they were likely not needed.
