8Sigma’s voodoo™ Frac Plugs Complete Successful Field Trials in the North Montney Formation

April 23, 20256:55 AM BOE Report Staff

8Sigma’s voodoo™ dissolvable frac plugs recently completed a successful field trial for an operator working in the challenging conditions of the North Montney formation. Developed and engineered in Canada, 8Sigma’s innovative plugs feature a unique design that offers highly effective isolation in fracturing operations. The voodoo™ plugs provide pressure isolation of up to 103 MPa and can withstand temperatures up to 177°C, making them well-suited for high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) environments. The plugs fully dissolve in as little as seven days, offering a significant advantage over traditional mechanical plugs, which require time-consuming and costly milling operations for retrieval.

Proven Performance in the Field

Post-frac mill outs demonstrated the dissolvability of the voodoo™ frac plugs, with coil tubing running in the hole and encountering only slight obstructions. This seamless performance indicates that the plugs dissolve as expected, reducing operational downtime and eliminating the need for additional intervention. Furthermore, a post-stimulation logging run was conducted using Dark Vision technology, which confirmed 100% isolation with no minimal casing wear. This level of performance is crucial for maintaining well integrity and optimizing production rates, particularly in complex wellbores where minimizing damage and ensuring efficient stimulation are top priorities.

Meeting the Demands of Modern Wellbore Designs
As the oil and gas industry pushes the boundaries of wellbore design with longer laterals and deeper well depths, the challenges associated with completions are becoming more pronounced. These advancements in wellbore architecture necessitate frac plug technology that can reliably perform under increasingly extreme conditions. The longer lateral lengths and increased well depths place pressure on the tools and technologies used during completions, particularly regarding coil tubing operations. The potential for increased operational risk, especially when using traditional mechanical plugs, makes effective and dependable dissolvable frac plug solutions even more critical.

8Sigma’s Commitment to Innovation and Reliability

In response to these evolving industry needs, 8Sigma’s has made it its mission to continuously innovate while simplifying operations. Their voodoo™ frac plugs embody the company’s core philosophy: “Innovation Simplified.” This approach aims to provide operators with reliable and proven technology that reduces operational risks and helps control costs. By offering dissolvable frac plugs that are both effective and efficient, 8Sigma is making it easier for operators to complete complex stimulation operations without compromising safety, performance, or budget.

The successful field trials of the voodoo™ frac plugs underscore their ability to meet the demands of modern wellbore designs and illustrate their potential as a game-changing solution in the hydraulic fracturing industry.
