Explore the Depths: Secure Your Spot at Core Conference 2025!

April 24, 20256:54 AM BOE Report Staff

Explore the Depths: Secure Your Spot at Core Conference 2025!

Join CEGA at the AER Core Research Centre on May 8–9 for Core Conference 2025! This year’s theme — Establishing Connections: The Interplay of Rocks, Energy, and People — sets the tone for insightful conversations around diverse plays, lithologies, and evolving energy applications. Our 2025 technical program will explore everything from unconventional reservoirs to critical minerals and carbon storage, offering a deep dive into the subsurface and its role in our energy future.

SESSION 1: Unconventional Reservoir Characterization: Montney and Duvernay

The session kicks off with the Duvernay—a true shale play that continues to make headlines as its potential is unlocked. The second half shifts to Montney, exploring facies development across the basin and down to the molecular level. Both formations offer enormous resource potential and are pillars of Canada’s oil and gas sector—let the battle begin!

SESSION 2: Stratigraphic Frameworks and Basin Evolution from Devonian to Cretaceous Across Canada

Session 2 dives into the detailed stratigraphy of formations across Canada. Speakers will explore depositional environments, sequence stratigraphy, and basin evolution using a range of methods on rocks from Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon.

SESSION 3: Reservoir characterization for Energy, Storage, and Sequestration

As the world evolves, geoscientists’ reservoir characterization skills remain key to energy development and emerging industries. This session highlights traditional applications in a SAGD play of the Lloyd Thermal block, along with newer roles in subsurface gas storage, helium exploration, and CO₂ storage—showcasing the lasting value of geoscience in Canada and beyond.

SESSION 4: Exploring the Deep Subsurface: Basal Cambrian Complex and Basement Rocks

This session explores sedimentary rocks of the basal Cambrian and the underlying igneous and metamorphic basement. With growing interest in carbon storage, new energy sources, and critical minerals, understanding these deep rock units is more important than ever. Join us for a deep dive into some deep rocks.

Advanced Registration Closing Soon!

Register for Core Conference online before May 2nd to receive advanced registration rates. Full conference registration includes access to two-days of technical talks and core displays, coffee breaks, BBQ lunch on both days and one ticket to the Core Meltdown. Onsite registration will be available.
