Today’s swearing-in of Prime Minister Carney’s Cabinet signals the start of a new chapter in Ottawa that will be judged by action and results, not rhetoric.
During the recent federal election campaign, Prime Minister Carney promised a new tone and direction for Canada’s natural resource development. He promised Canadians he would make Canada an ‘energy superpower’ by developing both Canada’s conventional oil and gas and alternative energy resources.
The 2025 federal election marked a defining shift in Canada’s energy future. Canadians spoke clearly: the debate is no longer whether to develop our natural resources, but how swiftly and boldly we can advance. Now, the question is whether this new government is prepared to act with the urgency and ambition this moment demands.
The Canadian Association of Energy Contractors (CAOEC) remains ready to work with this new Cabinet. However, collaboration must be met with conviction.
Our top priorities are:
- Immediately expand oil and gas infrastructure projects that strengthen Canada’s energy and economic security, creating jobs and opening global markets;
- Eliminate the oil and gas emissions cap that undermines responsible development and jeopardizes our national interests;
- Scrap greenwashing legislation that unfairly silences Canadian companies from showcasing their world-leading environmental performance and economic contributions;
- Fast-track Indigenous ownership and partnerships in energy projects, like LNG, to deliver true reconciliation and shared prosperity to Indigenous, rural, and remote communities.
The path forward demands courageous leadership. The right policy choices will shape a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Canada — and our members are ready with the people and resources to help make it happen.
We need policies that deliver for Canadian workers, communities, and Indigenous peoples — right now. Let’s get to work.
— Mark Scholz, President & CEO, CAOEC
