Agreement opens the door to exploring long-term supplies of low-carbon Canadian LNG to European markets
NITASKINAN, QC, Sept. 11, 2026 /CNW/ — Kino Aski LNG and Naftogaz Group announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore potential cooperation on the long-term supply of low-carbon Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to European markets.
The agreement establishes a framework for the two organizations to assess potential supplies of Canadian LNG to Naftogaz Group from the proposed Kino Aski LNG Terminal. The parties will explore potential European market demand, supply volumes and options for delivering LNG to Europe.
This represents an important step in assessing the commercial potential of Kino Aski LNG and its potential contribution to the diversification and security of Europe’s energy supply.

A First Nations-Led Project
Kino Aski LNG is being developed under First Nations leadership and aims to create long-term economic benefits for participating communities in Quebec and Ontario, while advancing an approach based on respect for Indigenous territories, environmental protection and collaboration with affected communities.
The Atikamekw Nation is acting as a catalyst to enable First Nations across Eastern Canada to assess the economic opportunities associated with an international-scale energy development.

Strengthening European Energy Security
At a time of geopolitical uncertainty and transformation in global energy markets, Europe is seeking to diversify its energy sources and supply routes.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, Kino Aski LNG and Naftogaz Group will work together to assess the potential for low-carbon Canadian LNG in the European market and its contribution to the continent’s energy security and energy transition.
A Project Still Under Evaluation
Kino Aski LNG is currently in the technical study phase and its development has not yet been confirmed. No final pipeline route has been selected and no formal regulatory process has been initiated.
Technical studies, environmental assessments and consultations with affected First Nations will guide the next steps. Kino Aski LNG will continue to assess the development’s feasibility in alignment with Indigenous values and with respect for the land and the environment.
