On September 14, 2026, Ksi Lisims LNG announced its third international offtake agreement, signing a Heads of Agreement with Santos, one of Australia’s leading domestic gas suppliers and a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplier in Asia. The agreement is for the sale and purchase of 1 million tonnes per annum of LNG from Ksi Lisims for a term of 20 years. This is the third international agreement Ksi Lisims has signed this year, following deals with Uniper and SEFE, both Germany-based companies.
Until last year, Canada relied almost entirely on the U.S. market for its natural gas exports. Agreements such as this broadens our customer base, enhancing our trading network, economic sovereignty and global energy security. This deal supports the federal government’s trade diversification agenda, enabling us to go from less than 0.01 percent of our natural gas exports being sent to non-U.S. markets in 2024 to an estimated 55 percent by the early- to mid-2030s.
Ksi Lisims LNG, which includes the Nisga’a Nation as a key partner, is a $30-billion project that will be Canada’s second-largest LNG facility, with exports of 12 million tonnes per annum of LNG. It will also be one of the world’s lowest-emission LNG operations, with emissions 94 percent below the global average. By contributing the world’s lowest-emission LNG to markets still dependent on coal or more emissions-intensive LNG, the project has the potential to reduce global emissions by 9–14 million tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to taking over three million cars off the road. Ksi Lisims LNG was referred to the federal Major Projects Office in November 2025.
This deal, signed in the same week as Canada’s first-ever international Investment Summit, demonstrates alignment between the federal government, Indigenous Peoples, industry and international partners on the ability of Canadian energy to provide a foundation for a more prosperous, secure and connected world — while building economic strength and energy sovereignty at home.
