US crude output rose in August while petroleum demand declined, EIA says

October 30, 202610:42 AM Reuters0 Comments

US crude oil output rose in August, while demand for crude oil and petroleum products declined, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its Petroleum Supply Monthly report on Friday.

US crude oil production rose 19,000 barrels per day in August to 13.965 million bpd, compared with the EIA’s revised July figure of 13.946 million bpd.

Meanwhile, total oil demand was down 2.9% or 618,000 bpd versus last year, at 20.595 million bpd.

New Mexico crude production hit a monthly record high in August at 2.442 million bpd, up from 2.424 million bpd in July.

Meanwhile, US gross, marketed, plant liquids and dry natural gas production all rose to monthly record highs in August, the EIA said in its Natural Gas Monthly report.

Gross gas withdrawals rose to 139.0 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in August, topping the prior monthly record of 137.4 bcfd in July.

Gross withdrawals are the full, raw volume of gas produced from both oil and gas wells.

Marketed gas production rose to 127.4 bcfd in August, topping the prior monthly record of 125.6 bcfd in July.

Marketed production (also known as wet gas) is the total volume of gas produced from oil and gas wells minus specific field and processing losses.

Gas plant liquids production rose to 11.6 bcfd in August, topping the prior monthly record of 11.5 bcfd in May.

Plant liquids, also known as natural gas liquids, include liquefiable hydrocarbons like propane, ethane and butane.

Dry gas production rose to 115.8 bcfd in August, topping the prior monthly record of 114.1 bcfd in July.

Dry gas is the consumer-grade gas that remains after liquefiable hydrocarbons and unmarketable non-hydrocarbon gases are removed from the raw gas stream.

In top gas-producing states, gross output in August rose to a monthly record of 40.9 bcfd in Texas and a two-month high of 21.7 bcfd in Pennsylvania, the EIA said.

That compares with the prior all-time monthly high of 40.3 bcfd in July in Texas and the current all-time monthly high of 21.9 bcfd in December 2021 in Pennsylvania.
