August 14, 20268:50 AM The Canadian Press0 Comments

OTTAWA – Statistics Canada says manufacturing sales rose for a fifth straight month in June, helped by gains in the chemical and transportation equipment subsectors.

The agency says manufacturing sales rose 0.1 per cent to $78.8 billion in June.

The increase came as sales in the chemical subsector increased six per cent to $6.3 billion, while the transportation equipment subsector saw sales gain 2.8 per cent to $12.4 billion.

In constant dollars, manufacturing sales rose 1.2 per cent in June.

In a separate report, the agency says wholesale sales, excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain, climbed 2.8 per cent to $92.5 billion.

Sales in the machinery, equipment and supplies subsector rose 4.8 per cent to $20.1 billion in June after two months of decline. The food, beverage and tobacco subsector posted a 2.8 per cent increase to $16.4 billion for June, with the food industry accounting for nearly all of the gain.

In volume terms, wholesale sales, excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain, rose 1.9 per cent in June to a record high.
