The U.S. has nosed ahead of Saudi Arabia and is on pace to surpass Russia to become the world's biggest oil producer for the first time in more than four decades. Crude oil leaks into floodwaters after train derails in Iowa
DOON, Iowa - A freight train derailed in northwest Iowa on Friday, leaking crude oil from at least one of 31 tankers into flooded fields flanking the tracks and raising concerns about the possible contamination of residential water supplies, officials said. National rig count falls by 7 to 1,052; Louisiana loses 4
HOUSTON - The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. decreased by seven this week to 1,052. At this time a year ago there were 941 active rigs. Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes reported Friday that 862 rigs drilled for oil this week and 188 for gas. Two were listed as miscellaneous.
