Legacy Oil + Gas Inc. issues statement regarding successful shut down of natural gas well in Turner Valley

June 21, 20132:14 PM CNW

CALGARY, June 21, 2013 /CNW/ – With the receding floodwaters, Legacy Oil + Gas Inc. (“Legacy”) has been able to get its emergency personnel at the well site and has confirmation that it has shut down the well releasing natural gas in the Turner Valley Field.  The well, Royalite 19, located at 5-6-20-2W5M in the southwest corner of the town of Turner Valley, had a flow line rupture due to impacts from trees and other debris in the rising floodwater. Due to the rupture, a release of natural gas containing approximately 1.8% hydrogen sulphide (“H2S”) occurred, at a low rate of flow.  Continuous air quality monitoring in close proximity to the release by Legacy and the Alberta Energy Regulator (“AER”) has not detected H2S exceeding regulated public health standards.

With the shut down of the well, natural gas is no longer being released.  The situation in Turner Valley is now considered stable and has been downgraded to alert status.  Legacy will continue to monitor air quality as required.  Residents in the area should contact the appropriate authorities regarding the timing of returning to their homes, due to the continued risks from flooding in the area.
