CORRECTION FROM SOURCE: Alliance Pipeline to Shutdown Mainline Pipeline System

August 6, 201510:34 PM Marketwired

CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwired – Aug. 6, 2015) – The following corrects and replaces the release sent on August 6 at 23:00 ET. The text in the final paragraph has been revised. The corrected press release follows:

Alliance Pipeline advises that an amount of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) entered into its mainline pipeline system as a result of complications experienced by an upstream operator.

Alliance is carefully and safely managing the situation. In order to correct the situation Alliance is commencing mitigation activities which are expected to result in a zero flow condition on the pipeline. It is anticipated that this will begin impacting commercial stakeholders mid-morning on August 7, 2015 and will continue for an indeterminate amount of time.

As part of this, Alliance plans to flare the impacted natural gas in order to safely dispose of it. This is planned to occur within the confines of Alliance’s Alameda compressor station in Saskatchewan. There is no risk to human health and no environmental impacts are expected.

“Our chief concern now is to ensure the safety of the public, employees and the environment. We are working to remove the H2S from the pipeline in a controlled and safe manner,” said Daniel Sutherland, Vice President, Commercial Operations. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our customers and we are working with our partners and the regulator to determine the cause.”

Alliance Pipeline will provide updates in the coming days regarding the length of the pipeline shutdown.

About the Alliance Pipeline system:

The Alliance Pipeline system consists of an approximately 3,719-kilometer (2,311-mile) integrated Canadian and U.S. natural gas transmission pipeline system, delivering rich natural gas from the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and the Williston Basin to the Chicago market hub. The United States portion of the system consists of approximately 1,577 kilometers (980 miles) of infrastructure including the 128-kilometer (80-mile) Tioga Lateral in North Dakota. The Alliance system delivers, on average, about 45.3 million standard cubic metres (or 1.6 billion standard cubic feet) of natural gas per day. More information about the company is available at www.alliancepipeline.com.

Alliance Pipeline Limited Partnership (“Alliance Canada”) owns the Canadian portion of the Alliance Pipeline system. Alliance Pipeline L.P. (“Alliance U.S.A.”) owns the U.S. portion of the Alliance Pipeline system. Both Alliance Canada and Alliance U.S.A. are owned 50 percent each by affiliates of Enbridge Income Fund Holdings Inc. (TSX:ENF) and Veresen Inc. (TSX:VSN).
