Nenshi calls out Harper on Alberta NDP comments

September 18, 20151:38 PM James Rose0 Comments

In last night’s debate, Stephen Harper wasn’t shy about pointing the finger during the tax portion of the debate. Harper criticized the federal NDP’s platform then drew a link to the Alberta NDP’s decision to raise corporate taxes.

“They Federal NDP say, ‘we’re going to fix this somehow through raising taxes.’ In their platform yesterday, they put in a bunch of tax increases for the energy and mining sector.”

Harper further mentioned that it’s in the “NDP playbook” to try to balance the budget through tax increases.

“And what happens? We end up with job losses. That’s what we had with the NDP in power in Ontario.. B.C. …and we’re seeing exactly the same story here in Alberta.”

Calgary Mayor, Naheed Nenshi, was quick to point out in his live commentating during the debate his disagreement with Harper’s comments:

SH attacks NDP government in Alberta again. Will that backfire? Yesterday, someone said to me "I didn't vote NDP, but (cont) #GlobeDebate

— Naheed Nenshi (@nenshi) September 18, 2015

(Cont) I'm really tired of the PM telling Albertans we're stupid for electing them." #GlobeDebate

— Naheed Nenshi (@nenshi) September 18, 2015

Nenshi has also not been shy about pointing out apparent support for Rachel Notley:

@wildrose76 last poll I saw, Premier Notley was still the second-most popular premier in Canada. I think buyers remorse argument overblown.
