GPS Award Nominations are Coming to a Close. Act Now to Celebrate Change and Evolution in the Energy Industry

February 24, 20173:43 AM BOE Report Staff

Applications for the 2017 GPS Awards will be accepted until February 28, 2017.

The Global Petroleum Show Awards help gain global recognition and authority, says a 2016 award winner.

“Global Petroleum Show is a respected brand, it’s a nice testimony to what our technology brings,” says Joe Kuhach, CEO of Nsolv, the company that won the coveted Innovation in Technologies Award in 2016.

GPS Awards recognize and celebrate leaders who drive change and evolution in the energy industry. Past winners of the prestigious awards include Titanium Corporation, Boon Energy and PDVSA Intevep.

Award categories include technological innovation, environmental excellence, leadership, indigenous engagement, corporate social responsibility, and community engagement. A new Health & Safety Award was also added in 2016, to recognize new technologies that contribute to enhance the overall health, safety and environment record of the energy industry.

The winners are announced at an exclusive networking breakfast held during the Global Petroleum Show, where industry leaders from around the globe mingle with nominees and winners. The event is an opportunity for award participants to promote their industry influence and network with market leaders.

Highlight Industry Success

The awards highlight successes in an energy industry driven by technological innovation and leadership. It’s an opportunity for nominees to network with key industry leaders whose impact reaches wide into the industry.

“It can help you establish the right frame of reference from how you’re viewed from an outsider’s perspective,” says Kuhach. “We felt as well that getting this type of recognition would help create more of an awareness of the technology in the industry,” he adds.

Applications go through a three step process: submission of entries, preliminary judging and a shortlist.

“I’m not going to let this go,” said Titanium Corporation President Scott Nelson, when accepting the Environmental Innovation Award at the ceremony in 2016.

“It’s definitely a good venue for getting exposure globally.” – Joe Kuhach, CEO of Nsolv, 2016 Winner

He said it was exciting to receive validation from the energy industry that the company was working on something valuable both for the economy and the environment.

“We’re honoured to be a piece of the puzzle,” said Nelson.

Entries Now Being Accepted

The application process for the awards is quick. It’s also a great way to vet your technology with experts and have your project peer reviewed, says Kuhach.

“In Alberta we don’t see ourselves as innovators as much as we really are.” – Sarah Campbell, Conference Producer

“It’s definitely a good venue for getting exposure globally. It’s well worth the time if you’re considering it,” he adds.

The awards are ideal for those driving change in the industry to network and generate revenue says Sarah Campbell, Conference Producer with dmg events.

“In Alberta we don’t see ourselves as innovators as much as we really are and to that end I think we don’t encourage those that are innovating and celebrate those that have succeeded,” she says.

The GPS awards change that, says Campbell.

Global Innovation Recognized

“We are recognized as a global oil and gas show not just a local one,” she adds.

There are huge advantages for the winners as well in terms of the profile it gives them and the prestigious addition to their reputation, says Margaret Byl, Executive Director at Alberta Innovates who was also on the judging panel.

“It is a way about talking about and profiling the good work that they’re doing,” says Byl.

“I think it’s a great venue for being able to showcase your technology and being part of the awards process can give you highlighted attention,” says Kuhach.

Applications gain by getting that exposure even if they’re not the recipient of the award, says Byl, and the application itself can be used for marketing and communications use.

“I think the process can serve more than just the GPS awards,” she says.

The awards ceremony is also a great way to meet nominees and participants, says Byl, and there’s no beating the breakfast event.
