Jason Kenney is the new leader of Alberta’s Progressive Conservatives. The former Calgary MP and federal Conservative cabinet minister beat two rivals on the first ballot in delegate voting in Calgary. Kenney captured 1,113 of the the delgate votes--well ahead of candidates Richard Starke (323) and Byron Nelson (40). Western Canada’s fleet of drilling rigs are still busy but not as busy as the week prior with 276 actively drilling according to data collected by Baker Hughes for the week of March 17th. Drilling activity is starting to slow down, but still very active in comparison to last year’s count (only 67 active rigs).
