OIL FLOWS ON GULF COAST PIPELINE
CALGARY - Oil has begun to flow on the southern leg of TransCanada Corp.'s Keystone XL pipeline. Spokesman Shawn Howard says the company began filling the US$2.3-billion line with oil Saturday morning in Cushing, Okla. That crude will eventually make its way to Houston-area refineries. CALGARY - Shell Canada's controversial Jackpine oilsands mine expansion plan has received the go-ahead from Ottawa. Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq says the 100,000 barrels-per-day expansion is "likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects," but that it is "justified by the circumstances." EDMONTON - A report by an environmental monitoring agency has found the variety of plants and animals in the oilsands area is largely healthy. But the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute, funded by industry and government, has found that animals that prefer old-growth forests, such as marten, are deserting the region in favour of those such as coyotes, which are found everywhere. Oil gains on strong US growth; natural gas soars
NEW YORK - The price of oil edged higher Thursday as the U.S. economy grew more than expected in the third quarter.Benchmark U.S. crude for January delivery rose 18 cents at $97.38 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
