BRAD WALL’S TURN: Saskatchewan’s Premier heads to Washington pushing for Keystone

February 26, 20133:45 PM BOE Report Staff

REGINA – Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall will be pushing for a pipeline and promoting Canadian energy in Washington next week.

Wall will be in the American capital urging U.S. leaders to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, which would take heavy oil from Alberta to refineries on the Gulf Coast.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to make the final decision on the $7-billion pipeline this spring.

Wall also says he’s concerned that Keystone approval is being linked to Canadian domestic policy on greenhouse gas emissions.

The premier says Canadians should be alarmed by suggestions that Americans would approve or reject a pipeline not on the merits of the project, but on domestic environmental policies.

He says part of his message will be that Canada is doing its part when it comes to cutting greenhouse gases.
