Most production data is out for October. BC and Saskatchewan data has been reported in full, while Alberta has reported oil, condensate, and gas; full Alberta NGL data (including pentane) and marketable gas is due out in a couple weeks. While the October data won’t be considered complete until the rest of the Alberta data has been reported, it is nonetheless worthwhile to show the data as it stands today. Pentane volumes in Alberta will not be represented yet for October which may affect liquids results, and “gas equivalent” volumes will be used instead of “marketable gas” in cases where marketable gas is not yet available. As always, we use calendar day production metrics so these are real volumes produced in the month. Despite the incomplete version of this data, it is still interesting to present it as this data is fresh.

TOP 15 NATURAL GAS WELLS (see on map)
Notable oil/condensate wells:
- A truly dominant performance in October from ARC Resources. Not only did the company have the top 13 condensate wells in the month, but several of these wells were approaching the 2,000 bbl/d level, making these some of the best wells that we have seen since establishing our Top Well Reports over the last 2 years.
- On a corporate basis, October looks to be the best month for condensate production in the company’s history (Figure 1).
- Whitecap Resources rounded out the top 15 with 2 top condensate wells. In fact, were we to expand this list, Whitecap did have 5 of the top 18 oil/condensate wells in October, all over 1,000 bbl/d.

*AB pentane volumes not yet reported. “Gas equivalent” volumes represented in gas column until “marketable gas” is reported. Cumulative column includes oil/condensate/pentane.
**TOP WELL REPORTS generally filter out oil sands/thermal wells, and only consider onshore Canadian production. However, BOE Intel subscribers can choose their own well types and include or exclude these wells
Notable natural gas wells:
- Ovintiv had 10 of the top 15 natural gas wells in October, ranging from 15.6 – 24.4 mmcf/d. These wells all came from the company’s BC Montney acreage at Sunrise and Swan Lake.
- ARC Resources had the #2 well, a Montney well at Sunrise that produced 22.4 mmcf/d.
- Canadian Natural Resources had 4 impressive natural gas wells that made it into the top 15 in October. What made these wells particularly notable is that they were the only Alberta wells to make the list, and the only non-Montney wells. These wells were from the Falher formation.
