Maximizing Well Stimulation Efficiency: How a Visco-Elastic Diversion System is Redefining Diversion Technology

April 8, 20256:12 AM BOE Report Staff

Optimizing well stimulation is challenging, particularly when acid placement is inconsistent. Fluids follow the path of least resistance, often bypassing lower-permeability zones that need treatment. Traditional methods like mechanical isolation or solid diverters (rock salt or benzoic flakes) have limitations, increasing costs, require high rate pumping to achieve critical fluid velocities for solids carrying capacity, or fail to ensure even distribution.

INNOVATIVE SOLUTION

STIMWRX-DVG is a Visco-Elastic Diversion System that provides a more efficient alternative. Unlike solid diverters, DVG is a liquid based system that temporarily seals high-permeability pathways, ensuring treatment reaches damaged zones without expensive equipment or complex intervention. It enables fluid diversion at lower pump rates while maintaining even wellbore coverage. Unlike solid diverters, DVG conforms to formations, eliminating gravity induced uneven distribution.

A field trial in the Amaranth Formation highlighted DVG’s impact. A Pierson Field well, struggling with near-wellbore scale buildup across the Hz cemented liner, had previously undergone selective acid stimulation at the request of the operator with only temporary results. STIMWRX recommended a bullhead treatment using DVG, which enhanced acid placement and prevented fluid bypass.

REVITALIZING RESULTS

  • Production increased from 3 to 44 bbl/d, a 13.7 fold improvement.
  • Treatment Cost Reduced by 75% compared to the selective method.
  • Payback Period was just 17 days, four times faster than the previous intervention.
  • Efficiency Per Dollar Spent was 4.7 times higher than the mechanical isolation method.

This success reflects a broader trend. Since inception, STIMWRX DVG has been deployed in over 1,200 bullhead treatments, with over thousands of cubic meters pumped. Its success rate exceeds 95%, offering operators a scalable, cost effective solution. With a shelf stable formulation, it integrates seamlessly with other stimulation products, simplifying logistics and reducing costs.

For operators seeking a cost effective, streamlined alternative to mechanical isolation and high rate pumping, STIMWRX DVG offers a proven solution for improving stimulation efficiency.
