Canadian Rig Count Summary – Active rig count increases to 211
Canada’s active rig count came in at 211 this morning, an increase of 105 rigs compared to December 29. This increase, while large, is entirely expected as the annual holiday season activity lull comes to an end. Alberta’s active rig count increased to 156, while Saskatchewan’s rig count increased by 24. BC’s active rig count settled at 23, the highest level since December 21. $75 million cash sale of Blackspur Oil Corp. – binding agreement
On January 5, Australian Securities Exchange-listed energy company Calima Energy Limited announced the sale of its wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary, Blackspur Oil Corp. The sale agreement, which would see Blackspur Oil acquired by Astara Energy Corp, is for cash proceeds of $75 million before customary adjustments at completion for net debt. Canada’s active rig count came in at 93 this morning, a decrease of 4 rigs compared to December 22. This follows a larger drop last week, although we fully expect rig activity to increase rapidly in the new year. Alberta’s active rig count held steady at 70, while Saskatchewan’s rig count dropped by 3. BC’s active rig count settled at 21 compared to 22 earlier in the week. Canada’s active rig count came in at 106 this morning, a decrease of 52 rigs compared to December 15. This is a large drop, but entirely expected in the lead-up to Christmas. Alberta’s active rig count declined from 110 to 77, while Saskatchewan’s rig count decreased to 6. BC’s active rig count settled at 23 compared to 26 earlier in the week.
